Brunello is one of those great wines of the world that ages beautifully. Ten years is about perfect in our estimation, making this 2012. San Polino is the first biodynamic estate in Brunello, and they’re a subscriber to the saying, ‘wine is made in the vineyard’. It shows. We’ve been extremely lucky to have a few of the personality-driven wines from the San Polino vineyards, but we were yet to know luck until this arrived on our doorstep. Reserved only for years when the fruit is deemed exceptional, this wine has only seen production 7 times in the last 2 decades. Sandy loam and volcanic composition nurtures vines for long periods of ripening; while the south facing vineyards at 450m heights encourage prime ripening conditions for complexity and structure. An impressive 4 years in large Slovenian oak gave this wine supreme power to start its (very) long life. James Suckling gave this a lofty 96 point review four years ago. Imagine what it’s drinking like now!

We are committed to ALWAYS having wines available that are made by women. In an industry that’s still dominated by men, we believe in celebrating the incredible work women are doing. Here’s to our Women in Wine!

Winemakers: Katia Nussbaum & Gigi Fabbro

San Polino is owned and run by Londoner Katia Nussbaum and Luigi (Gigi) Fabbro from Friuli. San Polino was Montalcino’s first certified organic estate and is now run biodynamically. “We tend to make the wines first and think about how to sell them later,” says Katia. Decanter says: “The wines are joyful. They have depth and power and a wonderfully expressive complexity.”
